About Heroin Addiction
Learn More About Heroin Addiction & Treatment at Rebound Behavioral Health
Heroin is a powerful, habit-forming illegal narcotic made from the seed pods of the opium poppy. You’ve probably found yourself engaging in illegal activities to get your fix, and you may realize when you come down that you’ve engaged in risky behaviors that carry long-term consequences. How to Help a Loved One
Helping a Loved One Get Treatment for Heroin Addiction
If your loved one has become a slave to heroin, you’ve probably been dealing with a variety of conflicting emotions – you may be angry that your loved one has become an addict and you may fear for their safety. You know that inpatient treatment for heroin addiction is one of the best ways to get clean and learn the tools needed for recovery, but you may not know how to approach the topic. Here are some tips for guiding your loved one into inpatient treatment for heroin addiction:
Learn about heroin addiction: Addiction is a disease, not a choice. While you may recognize that addiction is no different than heart disease, it can be very helpful to research addiction so that you better understand your loved one. Attend an A.A. or N.A. meeting as well as a Nar-Anon or Al-Anon meeting to gain a greater understanding of heroin addiction rehab and recovery .
Deal with your feelings: Many people feel disgusted with themselves when they realize that many of the emotions they have about addiction are unpleasant. It’s normal to feel anger, frustration, disgust, and guilt when your loved one has an addiction to heroin. Find a therapist who specializes in addiction and join a support group, like Nar-Anon or Al-Anon to help you process your emotions.
Talk it out: Addicts often feel deep shame and regret for their addiction so the reassurance and support you provide can be a lifeline. Guide them slowly into recovery and don’t expect that things will change overnight. If your loved one initially resists the idea of seeking rehab and a heroin addiction treatment center, let them know the option is always available.
Why Consider Treatment
Why Consider Inpatient Treatment for Heroin Addiction at Rebound Behavioral Health
If you’ve been living with a heroin addiction, you’re probably using to stave off withdrawal as much as you are to get high. You may realize that you’ve lost most of the things that once meant something to you as your addiction deepened. It’s likely you’re struggling with medical complications of heroin abuse such as abscesses at the injection site and hepatitis B or C from sharing contaminated needles. You may have been long since fired from your job and rely on thievery to pay for your smack. Life doesn’t have to revolve around heroin abuse and its symptoms.
A rehab center that specializes in the treatment of heroin addiction can be one of the best ways for an addict to begin the path to sobriety. Inside our treatment center, you’ll be able to escape the stresses of everyday life and begin to focus on the one thing that matters most – healing from addiction. You’ll be able to safely and comfortably detox from heroin and any other drugs you’re taking while learning the skills needed to reclaim your life and emerge a happy, sober, and productive member of society.

Treatment Methods
Types of Heroin Addiction Treatment Offered at Rebound Behavioral Health
When you first come to us for help, you’ll undergo a variety of examinations and evaluations to allow us to gain a better understanding of the challenges you face. Your medical examination will determine if you’re suffering from health-related complications of your heroin abuse and determine the best strategies for detox. Your psychological evaluations will let us determine how psychologically dependent you are on heroin while determining if you’re struggling with co-occurring mental health disorders such as depression. We’ll take the results of your evaluations and sit down with you to create a plan of care that meets all of your unique needs.
Detox may be the first step for you if you’re physically hooked on heroin. During detox, we’ll work hard to safely and effectively rid your body of heroin and other substances in a safe, humane manner. You’ll be monitored often to ensure you’re not developing complications and to make certain you’re as comfortable as possible during this time.
Medication may only be used during detox and slowly tapered down by our medical team as you learn better ways to cope. Other people may need more long-term medication management to address any co-occurring mental health disorders they may have. The decision to use medication will be based upon the treatment team’s findings.
Individual therapy is a great way for an addict in recovery to gain insight into their addiction. During rehab at our treatment center, you’ll meet with an individual therapist at least once during your stay and more as you see fit. You may focus on issues such as anger management, coping with triggers, and relapse prevention.
Group therapy is often considered the cornerstone of addiction treatment as you will meet and support others who are facing similar addictions so that you may all grow, learn, and heal. You’ll attend a variety of groups, including 12-step groups such as A.A. and N.A., as well as process-based groups and psychoeducational groups. Through group, you’ll be able to process some of the feelings you have about addiction and recovery as well as learn more about coping skills and medication compliance.
Family therapy is very important for people who struggle with heroin addiction as addiction is a family disease. At our treatment center, family sessions will focus on mending broken bonds between family members, educating your loved ones about addiction and recovery, and allowing your family to share their feelings about your addiction. We will also provide your loved ones with referrals to community resources in Charlotte and Lancaster, such as Al-Anon and Nar-Anon.
